Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

I love Vietnam. The food, the people, the weather…everything went perfectly during my first international weekend trip.

Here’s the view from my hostel:

And some motorbikes (they’re EVERYWHERE! The government taxes cars something ridiculous like 300% but only minimally taxes motorbikes. The craziest things I saw being carried include: a family of 4, a fridge, glass, and a large tree):

I flew in Friday night, after the Embassy’s Fourth of July party, and arrived around 1am. The next morning, I made friends with a girl named Laura, who is from New Zealand and had just moved to HCMC to teach English for a year. We ended up walking around together all day Saturday. Here’s what we saw:

The War Museum. It was very anti-American and very depressing. I learned the Vietnam War went on for 17 years and you can still see the effects of Agent Orange on some people living in HCMC today.

Reunification Palace: The presidential palace. It was more impressive on the outside than the inside.

Notre Dame Cathedral:

The Post Office:

A Statue:
The Saigon River:

A local market with the best Pho (and probably one of the best meals of my life):
